Raphael Tuju Begs Jubilee Government For Job!?

Naomba Jubilee wanipe kazi — Former minister Raphael Tuju

By Rushdie Ouda

Former minister for foreign affairs, Raphael Tuju, has asked the government for a job.

Tuju who also worked as an TV anchor in the late 1980s and early 1990s, took advantage of the visit by Deputy President William Ruto to Bondo to ask for a government appointment.

The former minister, while addressing the audience, openly asked DP Ruto to consider him, like others who have benefited from the region, for a government position.

He noted that the Jubilee government had rewarded Bondo with two slots – CS for Defence held by Raychelle Omamo and the recent appointment of Wenwa Akinyi Odinga to the board of Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri).

“Mr Deputy President, my application is with your Personal Assistant and I am sure you will have a look at it and consider me for a job,” said Tuju amidst cheers from the crowd.

The man behind Party of Action (POA) urged residents of Siaya to work with the Jubilee government and not engage in unnecessary politics.

“The Luo have a saying that ‘Jaluo oksechi’ (A Luo does not beg), yet even companies advertise and plead with customers to buy their products. As you can see, I have pleaded with Ruto to give me a job,” said Tuju who enjoyed a warm reception from Bondo residents who demanded that he address them.

Chants of “governor 2017” by youth rented the air as he arrived for the function, fuelling speculation that the soft-spoken politician could be eyeing the Siaya gubernatorial seat in the next elections.

Tuju took over the Rarieda Constituency seat from Odeny Ngure in 2002 and served for five years before being dislodged by Engineer Nicholas Gumbo who is the current MP.

DP Ruto was at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), where he presided over a fundraiser for the construction of a seven-storey shopping mall, Syndo Plaza, owned by the Anglican Church of Kenya.
